Flashback Friday: Aladdin

By Official Disney Store Blogger, Nov 09, 2012 5:25 PM

This weekend marks twenty years since Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Abu, and the magic carpet introduced us all to a whole new world. Aladdin had its world premiere on November 11, 1992, so this Flashback Friday, we're celebrating Agrabah's most lovable street rat.

Genie and AladdinDisney animator Eric Goldberg drew the Genie, and was inspired by the caricatures of artist Al Hirschfeld. Robin Williams provided the voice, and improvised many of his lines.

The Cave of WondersThe interior and exterior scenes featuring the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin were among the first uses of computer-generated imagery, or CDI, in Disney animation.

A Whole New WorldProlific Disney songwriters Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice wrote the music for the film. Alan Menken has won eight Academy Awards for his Disney composing!

If you're a serious trivia buff, see if you can spot a few other Disney characters hiding in Aladdin. Here are your hints: when Aladdin and Genie are beached after escaping the Cave of Wonders, look for Pinocchio and Sebastian. If you have a super-keen eye (and a pause button on your remote), look for the Beast when the Sultan is stacking his toys.

If this post made you wish you had a friend like Aladdin, has everything you need to get your three wishes and more! Check out some of our favorites below.

I feel satisfied after finding this one.

Aladdin was one of my favorite movies growing up! I collected quite a few of the toys :)
