Flashback Friday: Disney and the Muppets

By Official Disney Store Blogger, Nov 30, 2012 12:32 PM

Our post earlier this week about the Muppets stopping by Disney Store Times Square put us in a very Muppet-ational mood, so today we're taking you on a Kermit the Frog-filled journey through the Muppets' and Disney.

MuppetVision 3D
The partership between Disney and the Muppets began with Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The attraction opened in 1991, and was the last Muppet project produced by Jim Henson (he passed away before it opened). Today guests can also experience MuppetVision at Disney California Adventure.

Muppet Christmas Carol
The first Muppet film distributed by Disney was The Muppet Christmas Carol in 1992. It was also the first feature-length production in which Jim Henson did not perform as Kermit the Frog.

Muppets Wizard of Oz

In 2005, The Muppets' Wizard of Oz aired on ABC. It starred singer Ashanti as Dorothy Gale, but do you remember which Muppets played her helpers in Oz? Kermit the Frog was the Scarecrow, Gonzo was the Tin "Thing," and Fozzie was the Cowardly Lion.

The Muppets

Most recently, the Muppets starred in a new self-titled film with Amy Adams and Jason Segel. The end of the film features celebrities who made cameos in the film singing "Mahna Mahna," a well known song that the Muppets sang on the Ed Sullivan show and in the first season of "The Muppet Show." The pink creatures that sing background are called "snowths."

Hopefully our Muppet trivia made your Friday a little more inspirational and celebrational.

Happy Friday, Buzz readers!
